Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

A curse so dark and lonely is a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast. For those of you who do not know, Beauty and the Beast is my favourite of all time so I was so excited to read this, and I was not disappointed.

To be honest, the start was quite slow for me and it took a while for something to happen but I feel that the build up was worth it. You definitely do get the whole beauty and the beast feel with the descriptive writing style and I could picture it all in my head while reading the book.

In this retelling, Prince Rhen has to repeat the season of Autumn of his eighteenth birthday over and over again….for three hundred and twenty seven times to be exact.

Fall in love, break the curse.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

Harper is full of sass and fierce and I bloody adore her! And I love that even though we find out early in the story that she has cerebral palsy, she doesn’t let that stop her. To be honest I even forgot about that while reading the story because I was just so into her being fierce and sassy and kick ass.

And Rhen, our prince. Rhen has some serious issues. I feel that he is full of regret about what he did, and all he wanted was for someone to love him.

Harper brings out the best in Rhen, she makes him see what she does, and what’s important.

AND GREY! OMG OBSESSED! Grey is now officially added to my list of book boyfriends because I love him so much. He puts on a cool front, but I SEE YOU GREY! He cares so much about Rhen and Harper, and how he is with those kids dksjfhasldifboa I can’t deal.

I’m trying not to give any spoilers away for those of you who have not read this yet, but if you are familiar with Beauty and the Beast then you can kind of figure out what happens….

It came out of no where and I was sitting there like no wait what?! For about half an hour after I finished lol.

I thank the Emberfall stars above that there is going to be a sequel because I need answers!!

I’ve given A Curse So Dark and Lonely 4/5 stars.

“I am always surprised to discover that when the world seems darkest, there exists the greatest opportunity for light.”

Until next time, happy reading!
